FAQs

Is hummus zero points? ›

Is hummus a ZeroPoint food? Hummus is only a ZeroPoint food if it contains no ingredients with Points, such as oil, tahini or sugar. As most store-bought hummus contains at least one of these, you probably won't find any ZeroPoint hummus.

Why does my homemade hummus taste bad? ›

Another cause might be that your lemon is a bit old, causing it to taste more bitter than sour. Lastly, if you've added too much garlic or just happened to used a particularly strong clove, it'll leave the hummus with a very pungent, raw taste.

Why is homemade hummus not creamy? ›

You might need more tahini, garlic, lemon and/or salt and very likely more chickpea water. Add a bit of each as you need, the recipe explains. "Blitz the hummus until very smooth, a few minutes at least. Don't worry about the hummus being too loose; it will thicken as it sits."

Is it OK to eat only zero point foods on WW? ›

Zero point foods are foods that Weight Watchers says you don't have to track. You can track them; you just don't have to. The rationale is that they are not foods most people become obese with. Most obese people probably didn't get that way eating a lot of plain nonfat yogurt or a bunch of blueberries.

Can you eat too many zero point foods on Weight Watchers? ›

You might be overeating zero-point foods

This system helps you choose more nutritious foods, but your body doesn't work off of points, it works off of calories. For example, if you've met your points budget for the day, but still feel hungry you're technically allowed to eat as many zero-point foods as you want.

Why do I feel bad after eating hummus? ›

Moore claimed that overdoing it with this dip could lead to gastrointestinal issues, arguing that because hummus is made from chickpeas—a legume that takes a while to break down—eating hummus could cause gastrointestinal inflammation for some individuals.

Why does Sabra hummus taste bad? ›

It tastes bad - the amount of lemon and tahini is off. It has preservatives and it has ingredients that are unnecessary (like salt), it uses soy bean oil, and other stuff like locust bean gum that I'm guessing is added for a smoother texture.

Is hummus fattening or good for you? ›

Many people worry, and ask “is hummus fattening” as they begin their diet. This is unfortunate, because humus can be a great snack to actually aid weight loss. That's because monounsaturated fats help you lose weight – specifically belly fat.

Why put ice cubes in hummus? ›

Two elements you need for food that's meant to be fluffy and creamy are air and moisture. Ice cubes do both jobs by whipping air into the mixture while adding a touch more moisture to ensure ultra-creamy hummus.

Why do you put baking soda in hummus? ›

Baking soda: Adding baking soda to the chickpeas helps make the legume easier to digest, softer, and makes them easy to peel. Don't skip this ingredient! Lemon juice: I never suggest using pre-bottled lemon juice, but I especially urge you not to in homemade hummus.

Is it better to use dried or canned chickpeas for hummus? ›

Dried chickpeas provide better flavor than canned. Overcooking the chickpeas in water with baking soda makes them easier to blend. Puréeing the chickpeas while they're still hot lets you use a blender instead of a food processor for smoother texture.

How to jazz up hummus? ›

I like to top my hummus with cumin, chopped jalapeño, cilantro and olive oil. I also like to mix it up a little and substitute cumin with smoked paprika or coriander. You could also try: roasted red peppers, any type of chili pepper, diced red onion, tomatoes, olives, roasted garlic cloves, or even avocado.

What can I add to hummus to make it tastier? ›

Next, enhance the blank slate of flavor with a few squeezes of lemon juice, a sprinkling of garlic salt, a turn of freshly cracked pepper, a heavy-handed sprinkle of paprika, and a generous drizzle of your nicest olive oil. Bonus points if you have an herby olive oil on hand with a little color to it.

Are chickpeas a zero point food? ›

ZeroPoint foods in the category include: Cannellini beans, chickpeas, edamame, peas, lentils, red kidney beans, and split peas. Add moisture to chocolate cake and brownie batters with the addition of puréed black beans.

Are chickpeas 0 points? ›

I love that chickpeas are zero points. That makes for a low point snack! Roasting the chickpeas in the oven is very easy and there are endless possibilities as far as seasoning them. One of my favorite ways to season them is with ranch mix.

Why is hummus so high in WW points? ›

So, traditional Hummus (or Houmous if you'd prefer) contains tahini (sesame seed paste) and olive oil, both of which are quite high in Points. My favourite supermarket hummus works out at 3 Points per tablespoon (& that's not a nice, big heaped tablespoon - that's one of those unsatisfying small level tablespoons!).

Is hummus OK for fat loss? ›

Hummus is not only high in protein but also in fiber. Its protein content offers satiation, while fiber slows down digestion, making it a good weight loss option. When you stay full for an extended period, you will have more control over your daily calorie intake.
