Uber has stirred up some controversy as of late. The number of articles and websites about Uber’s problems are staggering and seem to be increasing by the day. But without trying to dive into whether you should or shouldn’t ride Uber, or whether it is or isn’t a good company to work for, we can probablyagree that Uber is an innovative game-changer.
It’s hard to remember why you used to put up with waiting for a taxi company to pick up their phone, then wait for an hour before it finally showed up. And pretty soon, it may be hard to remember why you used to listen to the driver’s music instead of your own. Uber has officially teamed up with Spotify to let you choose the soundtrack for your ride. You get to pick the music you want, and your music will be on the car’s speakers.
In addition to choosing their music selection, passengers will be able to adjust the volume to their liking or turn off the audioall together. But wait, before you get too excited here, there are a few catches. First, you have to be a Spotify Premium member to access the service, even though the application is run through the Uber app. It will also use your cell phone data, so unless you have a large data plan, this may not be a good choice for you. And finally, the Uber/Spotify collab is not yet available in the Pacific Northwest. The initial rollout began last week in ten cities –London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Nashville, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney and Toronto. If all goes well, additional cities will be unveiled in the next few weeks.
